Newcastle Open Spring 26
Great results this weekend at the Newcastle BJJ Open Spring Edition.
Jacob Todd was up first and in his first competition won 2 matches to secure the Gold medal 🥇
Akka aka Mr Jordan Atkinson (of no fixed address) went through the biggest group of the day beating some tough lads to top out, showing a good mix of positional grappling and strong submission holds 🥇
Jack was the only member of the team competing in both the Gi and Nogi categories. In the NoGi he advanced to the Semi finals where he was beaten and then dropped a close match for the bronze medal. In the Gi he won all three matches by submission. Putting him at 5 wins and a gold medal for the day, pretty decent for a first comp 🥇
David competed really well, showing great composure and the ability to maintain his lustrous hairstyle under big pressure from his opponents. He won 2 and dropped 1 to secure the 🥈
Overall the boyos went 13-4 on the day. It was a great event because everyone got plenty of matches and identified areas to improve on. The North East is canny strong in the Jiu-Jitsu scene and this is a good event for competitors to rack up their experience. Tommy Clasper assures me that he was “catching a vibe” throughout 🤙
Strong team performance and great debuts for two of the lads
