Machine MMA 46

This weekend just gone Blaydon Grapplers had Robbie and Henry competing in amateur MMA.

Based at the Fed in Dunston, this show is super local to us and both lads were matched against boys from Braveheart MMA coached by UFC veteran Stevie Ray.

In Robbie’s debut amateur fight, he came in confident but unfortunately got countered by a mega overhand in the early exchanges which dropped him. His opponent followed up well with accurate shots and the referee stepped in to wave off the match. A tough one to take and we’d of course like to see more of Robbie’s skills and effort 0-1.

Henry was also fighting a powerful athlete from the same gym and had a few bombs thrown at him. Henry managed to step off and counter well and his opponent closed to grapple with Henry. It was a very close and physical fight with both lads having good moments in the first two rounds.

In the third round after landing a good variety of strikes Henry managed to take down his opponent and develop the position quickly to the mount. Henry held the top position between mount and back mount whilst landing strikes to his fatigued opponent and the referee stepped in to end the fight 1-1.

Mixed bag in terms of results but some positives to take away and valuable experience banked.

If you’re looking to train in MMA or BJJ and you’re the Newcastle or Gateshead area and you’d like to join our growing and successful team there’s MMA training 4 times a week plus lots of grappling to make you a tough person.

Thanks to Henry’s sponsor No Limits Performance and Pete Irving for his input to Henry’s development.

Strong team
